Cancer Support Groups at SSM St. Joseph Hospital West

SSM Cancer Care offers three support groups for survivors and caregivers at our  SSM St. Joseph Hospital West facility in Lake Saint Louis.  The groups are led by Greg Pacini, MS, LPC, CGP, a licensed professional counselor with more than 25 years of experience in the counseling profession.  He specializes in support of the chronically ill, and is author of the book “Journey Beyond Diagnosis:  Support During and After Illness for Survivors and Those Who Love and Care for Them.”

Weekly Cancer Survivors Group

When: 3-4:30 p.m., Wednesdays
Where: H.W. Koenig Medical Building at SSM St. Joseph Hospital West

Who better to understand what survivors go through than fellow survivors?
This small group of cancer survivors meets weekly to discuss the matters most important to them, including:

• Dealing emotionally with treatments
• Managing anxiety and depression
• Sexuality
• Finding strength and hope
• Family and financial pressures
• And more.

Group members quickly bond and find comfort and safety in sharing those issues typically not discussed in social or family settings.

More information:
There is no cost to attend, and all are welcome. Those interested in joining are asked to participate in a welcome meeting with the group leader prior to starting with the group.  To schedule a welcome meeting, please call Pat Carr at 636-327-0473.

Monthly Caregivers Support Group

When: 6-7:30 p.m., third Monday of each month
Where: H.W. Koenig Medical Building at SSM St. Joseph Hospital West

Caring for and helping a family member with cancer can be exhausting, scary and sometimes confusing. In this monthly group, you will find comfort from other caregivers and get the help you need by sharing with others who share your role of chef, counselor, provider, housekeeper and more.

This group is open to anyone who is supporting someone with cancer. Participants will learn about compassion fatigue, and the mental, physical, emotional and spiritual exhaustion that can come from seeing someone you love in pain and being unable to ease that pain for them.

More information:
There is no cost to attend, and walk-ins are welcome.

Monthly Support Group:  For Cancer Survivors and Their Caregivers

When: 6-7:30 p.m., first Monday of each month
Where: H.W. Koenig Medical Building at SSM St. Joseph Hospital West

Join other cancer survivors and caregivers for this monthly opportunity to explore the journey of your diagnosis. We offer a safe, nonjudgmental atmosphere where you can feel free to explore your thoughts, feelings and beliefs.

Couples, families and individual survivors or caregivers can discuss the impact of a cancer diagnosis on all aspects of life.  A trained group therapist assures that topics are relevant to the emotional and relational needs of the group. The therapist also facilitates group discussion and provides additional support when needed.

There is no cost to attend, and walk-ins are welcome.
