St. Joseph Connection
Free Wireless Internet Access

At SSM St. Joseph Hospital West, we're committed to keeping you connected during your hospital stay.   That's why we're proud to offer WiFi with St. Joseph Connection, our hospital-wide wireless internet connection.  It's simple.  Bring your laptop from home and log on like normal.  It doesn't matter where you are--your room, cafeteria or waiting room--you'll always stay connected with St. Joseph Connection.

St. Joseph Connection is free of charge throughout the entire hospital.  Please view the hardware requirements and troubleshooting tips.

-On a Windows computer or other internet-enabled device, log in as normal.
-Make sure your WiFi connection is enabled.  You should see our guest network in the list of available wireless connections.
-Choose user name ssmhcguest.
-No password is required.
-Launch your favorite web browser.
-Read the SSM Health Care Wireless Internet Policy.  Click Accept to continue.
-You will be presented with a "Connection Successful" page.  From here, you may surf the web normally.

For further assistance, contact the Support Desk at
(636) 625-5399 or
ext. 5399 from any hospital phone.

Hardware
-A laptop, notebook, PDA or other internet-enabled device is needed.  The device should be equipped with a standard Internet Browser (Internet Explorer or Firefox) and a Wireless 802.11 b/g Ethernet card.  Software to control the wireless Ethernet card should be loaded on your computer prior to attempting the wireless connection.
-Newer laptops may have a built-in Wireless Ethernet card (adapter).
-If you do not have a wireless card, one can be purchased at a computer or electronics retailer.

With St. Joseph Connection, you also have the capability to connect to your corporate Virtual Private Network (VPN).  However, if you are unable to connect to your VPN, you may need to contact your company IT department.  At this time, you can use web-based email.  MS Outlook or Outlook Express applications are not supported.  We do not allow non-SSM outbound SMTP email.

Troubleshooting
-Is your SSID/ESSID/Network Name/Wireless Network Name/Network Identifier set to ssmhcguest?  For details, refer to your WiFi card.
-Is your software running while you are setting your SSID?  Sometimes setting the SSID to "any" will provide connection to available networks.
-Is WEP Encryption disabled and off?
-Is the connection configured for the correct mode?
-If any of the above changes are made, it is necessary to reboot your computer to enable changes.
-All previous proxy settings should be disabled.  To turn off proxy settings on your Mac, choose System Preferences, Network Panel, click on the Proxy tab and uncheck Proxy Choices (FTP, Web, etc.)
-To turn off proxy settings on your PC, choose Internet Explorer, go to Tools, click on Internet Options, click on the Connections tab and then on LAN Settings.  Make sure both checkmarks under the Proxy Server field are unchecked.

-If you are still unable to connect, please contact the St. Joseph Hospital West Support Desk at (636) 625-5399 or ext. 5399 from any hospital phone.
